02 Kinematics

Candidates should be able to:

  1. state what is meant by speed and velocity
  2. calculate average speed = distance travelled / time taken
  3. state what is meant by uniform acceleration and calculate the value of acceleration using change in velocity/ time taken
  4. interpret given examples of non-uniform acceleration
  5. plot and interpret a displacement-time graph and a velocity-time graph for motion in one dimension
  6. deduce from the shape of a displacement-time graph when a body is:
    1. at rest
    2. moving with uniform velocity
    3. moving with non-uniform velocity
  7. deduce from the shape of a velocity-time graph when a body is:
    1. at rest
    2. moving with uniform velocity
    3. moving with uniform acceleration
    4. moving with non-uniform acceleration
  8. calculate the area under a velocity-time graph to determine the displacement for motion with uniform velocity or uniform acceleration
  9. state that the acceleration of free fall for a body near to the Earth is constant and is approximately 10 m/s2.
